Hand Me Downs From Harlem


Gullah-Geechee that left the Low Country often immigrated North. Harlem became a home away for many of them. Work and money were plentiful there and they would send trunks of clothing and goods home to the islands. The island families used all that was sent. Turning impractical into practical items and loving the colors and materials.
